Dar ul Irfan – University of Sufism and Self

This post is an adaptation from a post from Dar Ul Irfan Inner Peace blog from June 4, 2019, with permission. The original content of the post is along the left and mine alongside on the right. In AP English class in the late 90’s my teacher was this awesome east/west philosopher and retired rock n’ roller. A common exercise was he would write Sufi quotes on the board and we would write for 20 minutes about whatever the words inspired. When I read the original post I was inspired to do something similar, now that I have lived 20+ years! I hope you enjoy, and if Mr. Dalton you can see this from up there, thank you.

The day of celebration has arrived, You have arrived within yourself

but where is the beloved? and there is nobody there.

Everywhere there is joy and happiness The heart cave was decorated with flowers

but has anyone seen the Beloved? but when you walked inside, hopeful

what joy then. you were alone.

how to rejoice then. I thought it would be different.

Union with the Beloved, Following the yearning in my soul

away from all there is. the forest paths converged

that day of sheer happiness. the pain felt worth it

How and where to seek the path to Beloved. Am I arrived too soon?

to the much awaited meeting Or too late?

what price to pay My ego was burned away

when will there be a resolve to this heartache by pain and loss and dissolution

to existence without separation The Beloved should be all there is left

without sorrow a soul adrift in the sea of remembering

that yearning for Beloved trusting the waters to take me home

where to acquire this sweet yearning pain. what have I forgotten?
